Staggered Labs

The brainchild of application developer Kwame Johnson, Staggered Labs is a project aiming to make music by leveraging intricately developed MIDI generating software. Kwame conceptualized Staggered Labs with a multi-disciplinary approach, combining his passions for software development and music together into one endeavor. Having been a musician in a previous life, he has always been intrigued by the reasons behind the creative decisions made by musicians. This eventually spurred him to develop a MIDI generating plugin, the Aleator – the chance music engine behind the Staggered Labs sound.

Consuming the rawest building blocks of songs as data, the handwritten algorithms baked into this technology create endless streams of generative music that are so artfully crafted, no one would guess that they were computer generated; something even harder to discern once the music has been edited and curated after hundreds of runs. Having worked on the project for a while underground, Kwame has finally decided to shine a light on Staggered Labs with Don’t Say I Never Did Anything For You and present a new and refreshing take on generative music, bringing beauty and precision to the forefront.
